The right label shape for every product
Which label is used depends primarily on the product to be labeled. The following factors come into play:
- type of packaging
- product type
- quality level of the product
- (mandatory) information on the label
- desired level of finishing touches
The types of labels used can vary by industry. For example, so-called seal labels are often used for foods such as honey or jam, while almost no champagne bottle is offered for sale without a neck label. Of course, a product can also contain multiple labels, such as front and back labels, or just one combined label.
Please note: unieketiket.nl cannot accept liability for the accuracy of the information on your labels. Always check which mandatory information applies to your product, and must be stated on the label.

Front and back labels, the standard label types
1. Front label
The front label, also called the main label or display label, is applied to the front of a product. It usually contains mainly design elements such as the logo, product name or a slogan. The front label is often the customer’s first contact with your product at the point of sale and thus decisive for whether or not the customer will buy your product. So the main purpose of the pre-label is primarily to attract attention, so an attractive design is important. But right after that, the label must convince your potential customer of the quality of the content, so that the product also ends up in the shopping cart.
2. Label backside
The back label, attached to the back of the product, usually contains more information about the contents, ingredients, manufacturer and bar code. Thus, the back label serves mainly practical purposes and provides information. Your customer can reassure themselves by looking at the back of the product: Does the first impression I got from the pretty front label match the contents? Does the overall picture convince me? Do I want to buy the product? Our tip: Order your front and back label in one production step, as a so-called alternating label. Learn more about alternate labels here.
3. Label for lid or cap
The lid label is a type of label that is an additional element and is located on the lid of the product. For example, it can contain elements such as the logo or product labeling and enhance the product.
4. Seal Label
The seal label, also called guarantee seal or freshness seal, is a combination of a front label and a cover label connected by a freshness seal or tape. Seal labels are mainly used in the food industry and cosmetics industry, as well as for products where freshness and hygiene assurance are top priorities. A seal label therefore stands for freshness and quality and provides ample space for both visual design elements and important product information.

5. Neck label
This type of label is widely used in the beverage industry, especially for beer, wine, spirits and sparkling wine. The neck label is a complementary element to the front label, serves mainly for visual appearance and thus completes the overall image of the product.
6. Banderol
Banded labels are applied around the product and thus usually surround the product completely or at least for the most part. This label form is especially often used as can labels or bottle labels. The banding offers a lot of space for design and information and thus can work as a banner for your product.
