Alternating labels for your products

What are alternating labels?

Alternating means that the front and back labels are produced “alternately” on the same roll. We therefore call both labels a ‘2 in 1 unit’. This means that you can order both labels, regardless of formats, in one order. Ordering a ‘2 in 1 unit’ on a roll is especially convenient if you have the labels applied to your product by machine. With both labels on one roll, you can apply the front and back labels simultaneously in one pass. It is advisable to check beforehand whether the labeling machine supports this.

This is how you prepare your alternating labels correctly:

1 Determining the size of the unit

Both labels must be supplied as one unit in one print file. First, therefore, the total size must be determined. We demonstrate this using an example: front label = 60×80, back = 50×70 (width x height in mm).

Width:

• Note: By default, there will be 5 mm in width between the two labels. This distance between the two labels may be slightly reduced or increased.
• The width will be: (60+5+50=) 115 mm.

Height:

• The height of the highest label determines the height of the unit.
• So the height is 80 mm.

2 Formatting the print file

The unit with both labels is placed on a drawing area (page) in the size of the unit. So in the example: 115×80 mm. Both labels must have die-cut lines, formatted according to our guidelines and also meet our other requirements for printing, see here: information on printing submission.

3 How to order:

• The “2 in 1 unit” counts as one sort.
• For example, if you enter 1000 at “total,” you will receive 1000 front and 1000 back labels (alternately on the roll).
• The size to order is the size of the unit, to be calculated as in the example above.
• The unit must be ordered as a custom design.
