About King’s Dune Distillery
From a passion for craft beverages and inspired by the beautiful dunes and rich history of the area, Wouter Jans and his father-in-law Frits Spijker founded King’s Dune Distillery in 2022.
The distillery’s name comes from the royal dunes in Castricum where the distillery originated. This dune land was owned 200 years ago by King William I and later by his granddaughter Princess Marie zu Wied. The historic building that still stands on this site is reflected on the labels.
The early period of King’s Dune Distillery consisted of small-scale experimentation and heaps of learning. As the enthusiasm of the founders and the quality of the recipes continued to grow, investment was made in a full-fledged production line with a 200-liter brewing system, fermentation tanks and the centerpiece: the copper, all-electric still.

The products
All King’s Dune Distillery products use only natural ingredients to craft characterful drinks for enthusiasts.
Three products have since been launched. A Bakkum Gin (a strong gin with 45% alcohol and 14 ingredients) and two drinks with a berry from our beautiful dunes as the main ingredient: a Sloe Gin aged for months on the basis of blackthorn berries (related to the plum) and a unique Sea Buckthorn Liqueur with sea buckthorn berries. The fourth product, a brown rum aged in an ex-bourbon barrel, is likely to be available in late 2025. The fifth product, the first peated whiskey, also cask aged, still needs at least two more years to be called whiskey, so it is still a while away.

The labels
When creating the labels, it was important to emphasize above all the classic and historical character of the distillery’s native land. Therefore, the old administration building of the Duin en Bosch estate was chosen to be shown in the background.
In addition, the desire was to show a strong brand identity, but with clear differences between the different products. We had the labels designed by the design service of unieketiket.nl. The labels were designed by Emir Ramic, (head of marketing design at unieketiket.nl). From the first contact there was an instant click and Emir provided fantastic advice, made numerous changes and added a lot of value at every step, resulting in the beautiful labels.
In the choice of materials and special spot varnish finish, we virtually sailed blind on Emir’s expertise: the special material “Tintoretto Gesso H+O 95 g (FSC® Mix Credit), a protective varnish matte and a glossy spot varnish on the beverage names and the “wax seal” was chosen.
We receive many compliments daily at King’s Dune Distillery for the harmony and appearance of the bottles with the labels. A result to be proud of!
