Sandwich label printing requires a special process. Therefore, you cannot order sandwich labels through our online calculator.

What is sandwich printing?

With sandwich printing, a label made of clear transparent ‘no-label-look’ PP foil is printed in several layers with a design visible from the front and a design visible from the back. This creates a double-sided label that can still be used as a self-adhesive label.

By leaving parts unprinted on both sides of the label, special effects can be created with this technique: for example, an unprinted part can offer a view through to the back label like a “window. Tip: It is always recommended to use the label in combination with a clear transparent bottle or jar.

Sandwich printing makes it possible to combine the front and back of a label into one label. It is therefore also an alternative to double-sided printing. This special production method is ideally suited for spirits labels. Therefore good to know: Sandwich labels can also be finished with a foil embossing. Here, the specific color of the foil is visible on the front; on the back, the foil is silver.

How do we print a sandwich label?

Using a sandwich label we designed ourselves, with which we won the 2018 HP Inkspiration Award and which can be seen at the top of this page, we explain how sandwich printing can be applied:

1. The label consists of two parts: the front and back label, which are produced side by side, alternately, on the roll on transparent material: ‘no-label-look’ PP film 50µ.
2. On the front label, we foil embossed in gold: the cage and the bar at the bottom and printed the logo and the decoration of the cage in color printing. Furthermore, no background was printed in order to keep the front label otherwise transparent. Please note: Depending on the desired design, the intermediate cover layers may not be 100% opaque. In any case, please contact our customer service team for detailed advice on the possibilities and limitations of sandwich printing.
3. Sandwich printing was used on the back label: On the front side we printed the text, logo and legally required information. On the back we printed a bird with a beige background. Between back and front we printed 2 layers of opaque white as a separating layer.
4. The effect: from the front you can see a golden cage (in foil embossed gold), through this you can see the bird printed on the back of the back label, this makes the bird appear to be inside the cage!
