Happy Earth-Day! Today, we write April 22, 2024, is “Earth Day”. So perfect timing for introducing our new eco-friendly label materials. They all contribute in their own way to the preservation of our earth! Let’s dive in and discover everything related to sustainable labels:
Our new eco-materials
- Hemp paper
- Ocean Bound
- Bio-based PE film
Hemp – originally sustainable
Hemp has been an important crop with many uses for centuries. It can grow almost anywhere, without many requirements and has many other great properties. Originally from the East, hemp was brought to our regions many hundreds of years ago. And because we have been growing hemp in Europe for so long, it has been a very well-known product for centuries. We know how to use every part of the plant; the leaves, the flowers, the fibers, the woody parts: they all have a long list of uses. To name just a few: foods, medicines, CBD, Marijuana, but also building materials, rope, sails, paper, and textiles. It is also one of the most sustainable crops in the world, hemp can grow almost anywhere and can even be harvested several times a year. And all without the use of fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals. And, now that we need to make a switch to a sustainable society, it is not surprising, that after a period when it was less popular, hemp is back in full swing. Of course, a label material with hemp is not to be missed!
- A white uncoated, matte, wood-free paper with 50% hemp fibers and 50% FSC®-certified paper (FSC Recycled Credit).
- Hemp paper is a sustainable alternative to traditional wood pulp-based paper, with hemp sourced from France and Germany.
- This sustainable paper helps reduce your carbon footprint on the way to a more sustainable and circular economy.
- The material reinforces your ecological image and is therefore perfect for products that emphasize environmental friendliness and naturalness such as organic products and natural cosmetics.
- By the way, the surface of the label lends itself perfectly to embossing!
- You can calculate the price of your labels on hemp paper directly in our online calculator. Simply select the hemp paper in the ‘materials’ list.

Ocean Bound – helps clean up plastic waste
Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) is plastic litter of all shapes and sizes that ends up within 50 km of the coast in places, where waste management does not exist or is inefficient. This waste is therefore at risk of entering the ocean via wind and or rivers, hence the name: Ocean-bound plastic. In fact, it is estimated that OBP causes 80% of plastic litter to end up in oceans and seas.
Plastic is in itself an extremely useful material for our modern society. It is light, strong, flexible and above all cheap, anything can be made from it easily and quickly. The major problem with plastics, however, is that we are totally unable worldwide to collect, let alone recycle, the used plastic, resulting in huge environmental impacts on all life on earth, including our own lives. There is therefore an urgent need to make the life cycle of plastics fully circular. Unfortunately, so far this is not happening quickly, despite international, national and local policies and industry commitments. “Ocean Bound plastic” is an initiative to collect litter plastic, in places where garbage collection is not regulated. The collected plastic is then recycled and made into a new material, including for labels!
Ocean Bound label material is designed to make your packaging more sustainable, supporting circular economy. The waste is collected from Asian beaches and coastal areas and then chemically recycled into a plastic with identical properties to standard PP. The material is ISCC PLUS certified and thus suitable for companies wishing to emphasize their commitment to environmental protection. Especially intended for the food and beverage, cosmetics and personal care and sustainable fashion sectors. Ideal for products with a connection to nature and the sea. ISCC is a certification system developed in Germany for renewable energy and materials.
- Made from plastic waste, which was in danger of ending up in the sea.
- From plastic waste from Asian beaches and coastal areas.
- Identical properties to our standard PP films.
- Ocean bound label material comes in two varieties:
- Ocean Bound PP clear – clear transparent film 48µ / 44g
- Ocean Bound PP white – film white 58µ / 41g
Bio-based PE film 80 g/m2
A great alternative to the ‘normal’ PE label material is our bio-based PE film, the film is largely made from non-fossil fuels. ‘Biobased PE’ offers a statement for a progressive approach to packaging materials. With their reduced carbon footprint, these labels show that you can adopt eco-friendly solutions without sacrificing user benefits. Suitable for environmentally conscious businesses in a variety of industries, including food and beverage, household products and cosmetics. These labels are particularly suitable for flexible bottles and containers.
