Olive oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, groundnut oil or avocado oil? Or any other oil? Whether it’s for seasoning salads and vegetables or for baking and frying, a good oil should not be missing in any kitchen.
What requirements must an oil label meet?
Oil packaging must fulfill three tasks:
- visually appeal to customers and induce them to buy
- convey product information AND
- protect the contents.
The latter is particularly important for cooking oils, as they are very sensitive to light and heat due to special production processes. Therefore, they are often sold in dark bottles – especially virgin, i.e. cold-pressed oils – to give them extra protection and maintain their high quality. This quality and the extensive production process must in turn be emphasized with the right packaging and communicated to the outside world. The label plays a decisive role here. The right material is particularly important. Not only must it reflect the quality of the product, but practically speaking, spillage of the product on the label must also be taken into account. A robust material is thus needed to protect against the action of oil, keeping the label looking nice and the product information legible.

Which material is suitable?
In general, we recommend a (plastic) PP film as a label material for oils. These are naturally smudge-proof and moisture-resistant, so they stick well and are legible for long periods of time. For more luxurious labels, we also have a special oil-resistant paper also called ‘Greaseproof’ in stock. This is a beautiful matte paper that also combines very well with an attractive hot foil or embossing. Things get even more special with Tyvek® label material. This material made of strong HDPE fibers is resistant to oil and liquids, is tear-resistant and extremely durable. At the same time, it is an elegant material with an attractive structure. Ideal for high-end cooking oils.

PP materials, Greaseproof paper and Tyvek® can be found in the materials list of our online calculator. This allows you to quickly and without obligation look up the price of your oil labels on these materials. Do you like the price? Then you can order the labels directly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our customer service: we will be happy to advise you and can send samples of the materials mentioned. Finally, one more tip:always choose a finish for your oil label. At a minimum, opt for a protective varnish to protect the print from abrasion. In combination with a PP material, we recommend choosing a foil laminate. This gives the label long-term protection against wear and tear, moisture and oil.
